It’s Time for the Lazy, Hazy Days of Christmas

We’ve all seen those “Christmas in July” sales on home shopping TV networks, in Sunday circulars or around town. If you are a PR or marketing professional these sales should be a sign that it’s time to get cracking on your own holiday initiatives — especially if you want to earn press coverage in long-lead time media outlets.

Remember, many local newspapers, TV stations and radio stations start planning early for special holiday packages. Editors and producers get working early on them, since there will be no late-breaking feature stories about holiday gift-giving, shopping, cooking and celebrating.

And now isn’t just the time for holiday planning, it’s time to actually start working on holiday marketing materials, press releases, infographics and mat releases — and to secure valuable distribution for them! The sooner your PR materials are ready, the sooner they can get into the hands of media outlets that work on long-lead times to take advantage of work schedules and get things shipped off to graphic designers and printers.

It is with this in mind that we at StatePoint Media start planning our “Holiday Season” package in summer to release it in mid-October. This way our clients’ stories can garner space in all those long-lead holiday packages being produced by editors for their print and online editions. In fact, we issue all of our timely special packages far enough in advance so media outlets of all types can get our client stories into their special sections.

Every year our Holiday Season package is one of our most popular special packages with the media — with each story typically delivering well over 1,000 media placements in print and online for our clients. Some even break the 2,000 placement mark!

When it comes to being holly and jolly, you are never alone during the holiday season, as your competitors and other marketers will be vying for previous media space. So get out in front by planning early and securing valuable space during the most wonderful and busiest media time of the year!
